All Means ALL
By Andrea
“I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength”
– Philippians 4:13
This is a verse I believe we’re all familiar with, and a verse I’ve heard a million times over the course of my life. Yet, why does this verse sometimes feel like just beautiful words on a page for someone else? When reality is, these beautiful words on a page are in a Book that is alive and active and for us.
The word, “all” itself can honestly seem overwhelming (to me at least) when we think of how it truly encompasses everything we’re striving for in our own strength; however, “all” doesn’t mean sometimes. It doesn’t mean in certain situations. It doesn’t mean perfection. It doesn’t mean during certain seasons of life. It doesn’t mean in our timing—it means ALL.
It’s really that simple: “All” means ALL. Everything.
When you’re in the trenches of infertility but are working in OB and surrounded by pregnant friends – “all” can just look like waking up and putting one foot in front of the other. Not in your own strength, but through God Who sustains us.
When you’re walking in the valley of unexpected and unimaginable loss of loved ones. “All” can look like thanking God for the breath in your lungs and the beating heart in your chest. Not in your own strength, but through God who can do exceedingly and abundantly above and beyond all we ask or think.
When you’re navigating infidelity, “all” can look like remembering our Good and faithful Shepherd, Jesus Christ, leaves the 99 to go after the 1.
All things.
ALL— through every season, every mountain top, every valley and every moment in between. To the world and ourselves, sure, we can do some things. But I want to do ALL things and that can only be accomplished when we realize our insufficiency and God’s amazing sovereignty! Isaiah 40:31 declares:
“But those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.”
Thank you, Jesus!
